BILLIARD AND SNOOKER MEMORABILIA

The game of Billiards, which has led to the modern game of
Snooker, has been around since 1799 when Thurston's began
development of the game, which incidentally came from Lawn
Croquet. The game saw many great talents over the years,
John Roberts, H.W. Stevenson, W.J. Peall and many more, but
during the early 1920's, a young Australian by the name of
Walter Lindrum came on to the scene. Lindrum was classed as
a very special talent indeed, and although some believed he
lacked the ambition or desire to make the mammoth trips to
the British Isles and compete against the then worlds best,
he certainly left his mark in the history books and to this
day is regarded as the single greatest player ever to have
lifted a cue.

The legendary English player Joe Davis's interest in Snooker
was almost solely responsible for the rise of the modern game.
As such, and given the history of the game, the creamery
Sports Bar has on display for the public a selection of
early collectable Billiard and Snooker memorabilia. The
display consists of early Ivory Balls, a fully restored
John Taylor and Sons Life Pool scoreboard, the Royal Game of
Billiard Bowls and a nice selection of early one piece cues
from such makers as Cox and Yeman, Burroughes and Watts and
J.P. Mannock to name but a few. Of note is our recently
installed antique Thurstons table, dating back to 1886. With
the patented 'Standfast' cushions, a cushion with a
solid slate insert to add weight and firmness, the table plays
superbly well and has been very well received by our members.
